ATARI LAMERS?
Articles defending 8 bit computers
and especially C-64 are regularly
published on some Amiga diskmags.
They often say that C-64 scene is
still active and not so bad regarded
to what a C-64 is able to do.
But I'd to draw your attention on a
scene most Amiga freaks behave like if
it didn't exist. The ATARI scene.
In a first part, I want to present it
to you in order you have a better
image of it and then to warn you about
reactions you may have against ST
users who buy an Amiga.
Although the ST scene is dying
because the ST is not anymore able to
compete with the Amiga due to the
semi-flop of STE machines, the ST
scene is nevertheless a very active
scene. There are many bands in
Sweden, Finland, France, England,
Germany, Iceland and of course some
boards in the US.
And aswell as the Amiga scene there
are many demos, diskmags, cracks and
so on released everyday.
And believe it or not but most
coders are on a higher level than most
Amiga coders because they must do hard
to scroll or overscan by cheating the
synchro. Or some 3D demos are as fast
as Amiga one without using a blitter
but only the MC68000.
Some Amiga bands have sections on
ST, or ST bands have sections on Amiga
like TRSI, Hotline,or Hemoroids for
example.

But at the present time, ST scene is
in a period of change. Most ST users
have bought or are going to buy a new
machine. The normal purchase should
be the FALCON but as it is a bit
expensive not so many people are quite
willing to buy it, whereas it's a good
machine and even some Amiga-freaks
seems to be interested in this machine
(Sanity already released a cool demo
on it!).
But in the fact, most ST users buy a
PC without being enthusiastic. So why
they don't buy an Amiga 500 or 1200
you may ask yourself ?
The reason is simple; ST users know
that Amiga scene is mostly based on
business even if we talk a lot about
friendship on diskmags..., whereas the
Atari scene is really based on friend-
ship, and moreover they know that ST
freaks are regarded as lamers so they
don't want to come to a scene where
they are looked like 2nd class scene
actors.
The reason for my writing of this
article, is that I come from the ST
where I was in one of the 10 leading
teams (Mad Vision) and that I want to
say to the Amiga scene that they have
all to win to welcome former St users
in their scene, because it is always
good to have new blood in a scene
especially if that people are already
experienced in coding, drawing...
And also because all that people
coming to Amiga means less people on
boring PC.
Don't forget Amiga enemy is not
Atari anymore, but Atari and Commodore
have common enemies: PC and consols.
